Willetta Calvin is a passionate community leader and adoptee advocate whose unwavering commitment to service is rooted in lived experience and a deep belief in the power of belonging. True community engagement, for Willetta, is about showing up with a servant’s heart, building authentic connections, and helping others discover hope and healing.
Willetta has served the communities for many years in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Jacksonville, Florida.
Her community engagement experience includes serving as Community School Director through a partnership between Bright Side Opportunities Center and Lafayette Elementary School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In this role, she collaborated with school staff, families, and community partners to support student and family needs and strengthen community involvement. Her responsibilities included participating in the School Community Organization (SCO), assisting with the planning and implementation of summer STEM camps, coordinating the school food pantry, developing the initial plans for a “Drink More Water Initiative” to promote healthy habits among elementary students, and launching a “Girls Initiative” to provide students with essential personal care items.
Beyond her work in the school community, she facilitated Adoptees Connect for several years, creating a supportive environment where adoptees could build connections, share experiences, and foster a sense of belonging. These experiences reflect her commitment to community service, relationship-building, and creating meaningful programs that address the needs of individuals and families.

Willetta’s journey as an adoptee has shaped her into a formidable voice for those who feel unseen or unheard. She creates spaces where people—especially adoptees and those navigating identity, loss, or transition—can feel seen, valued, and empowered to heal. Through her leadership, storytelling, and advocacy, she inspires individuals and organizations to build stronger, more compassionate communities.

Willetta’s life and career are anchored in compassion and action. As a community school director, founder of the Adoptee Circle, and a leader in trauma-informed care, she partners with local organizations, schools, and families to foster connection, healing, and hope. Her approach is holistic—combining professional expertise with authentic empathy, always meeting people where they are. She believes that service is not just what we do, but how we love others in action. Whether through advocacy, education, or creating healing spaces for adoptees, Willetta is honored to walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate life’s challenges and triumphs.

Willetta’s calling to serve is deeply rooted in her own story as an adoptee, and in the sacred responsibility she feels to give back what she has so graciously received—compassion, nonjudgment, guidance, and the unwavering belief that every story matters. She considers it an honor to walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate life’s joys, challenges, questions, and healing journeys.
