Welcome. My name is Willetta Calvin, and I’m honored to share my story with you.

I am an author, entrepreneur, Certified Trauma-Informed Care Professional, Circle Facilitator, and a passionate advocate for holistic healing. My journey—both deeply personal and profoundly transformative—has led me to become the Founder and CEO of Healing Deeply From The Root, where my life’s purpose is to help others discover their own paths to healing and freedom.

As an adoptee, I have walked the winding road of searching for identity, belonging, and acceptance. I know what it means to face the pain of trauma, rejection, loss, and abandonment. These experiences have shaped not only who I am, but also how I serve. I’ve learned that true healing doesn’t come from simply surviving our stories, but from embracing them—honoring every part of ourselves with courage, vulnerability, and hope.

I didn’t grow up knowing I was adopted. At least, not consciously. No one sat me down and explained that I had been born to another woman. No one told me there was another story about my life, one that existed before the family I knew. No one gave me a reason to question who I was. And yet, somehow, I grew up feeling it.

I grew up questioning my identity, my worth, and where I belonged. I longed to be loved, and searched for acceptance.

I actually found out that I was adopted by accident while searching for answers to my many questions in my parents’ closet.

For much of my life, I searched for answers to all my questions. I desperately wanted answers about identity, belonging, rejection, loss, love, and healing. Most of the answers never came, but it didn’t stop me from searching.

As an adoptee, I understand firsthand what it means to live with unanswered questions, a fractured identity, grief that doesn’t always have language, and trauma that often goes unseen by the outside world. I share my story in my memoir, SOMEBODY’S CHILD: One Adoptee’s Journey from Discovery and Rejection to Forgiveness and Healing.

Adoption can be beautiful, but it can also be deeply complex. For many adoptees, there are layers of abandonment, rejection, secrecy, loss, and emotional pain that can impact relationships, self-worth, attachment, and the way we move through life.

My own healing journey has been one of resilience and transformation. I have turned my struggles into sources of strength, insight, and compassion for others. This is why I am committed to creating safe, empowering spaces for individuals and communities to heal at the deepest level. Through workshops, support circles, speaking engagements, retreats, and one-on-one guidance, I meet people where they are and walk beside them as they reclaim their voices and step into lives of confidence and purpose.

I believe that healing is not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about seeing yourself wholly, reclaiming your story, and giving yourself the grace to grow, thrive, and lead others by example. I show up as a leader today not because my journey has been easy, but because I have lived through the pain and emerged with a deeper understanding of what it means to live authentically and love yourself fully.

How I Serve?

As a Certified Trauma-Informed Care Practitioner, and through Healing Deeply From The Root, I support individuals who are ready to confront the wounds beneath the surface and begin true healing. While my lived experience as an adoptee allows me to deeply connect with members of the adoption community, my services are not limited to adoptees. Trauma does not discriminate. Trauma can come from childhood experiences, abandonment, grief, abuse, family dysfunction, relationship trauma, emotional neglect, domestic violence, identity struggles, life transitions, or simply years of surviving in silence.

Whether you are adopted or not, if you have experienced emotional pain that continues to impact your life, relationships, confidence, boundaries, or sense of self, you deserve support.

What makes my work different is that it comes from both professional training and lived experience. I understand what it means to wear a smile while carrying pain. I understand what it means to search for belonging. I understand what it means to unlearn survival patterns that once kept you safe but now keep you stuck. Healing Deeply From The Root was created because surface-level healing was never enough for me. If you are an adoptee navigating identity, reunion trauma, rejection, or complex family dynamics—you are seen. If you are someone carrying trauma unrelated to adoption—you are seen too. This is a space for healing, growth, truth, and transformation. Because healing is possible. And your story does not have to end where your pain began. Healing starts here… from the root.

Thank you for being here. Whether you are seeking support, inspiration, or simply a sense of belonging, know that you are not alone. Your story matters, your healing is possible, and together, we can create new beginnings—from the root up.
